Cougs on Cougs: Hadley siblings Amanda and Spencer spotlight brother Matt and talk new BYU defense

Spencer Hadley and his brother, Matt Hadley, get ready to run out of the tunnel and on to the field of LaVell Edwards Stadium together—one of their sister Amanda’s favorite memories.

In Episode 31 of Cougs on Cougs, the spotlight is on BYU Football Defensive Back Matt Hadley. Returning for his junior season, Matt will be one of the core safeties in the secondary under the tutelage of Assistant Head Coach/Safeties Coach Ed Lamb. We had the opportunity to get to know Matt through his older sister, Amanda Hadley McCoy, and older brother, former BYU linebacker Spencer Hadley. Did you know Matt played running back in high school? In fact, the only high school player in Washington state to rush for more career yards than Matt (6,881 yds) is Jonathan Stewart, currently of the Carolina Panthers (7,755 yds). Watch the episode to find out what Matt’s brother and sister expect from him on the field, get their take on the new coaching staff, and hear a few good stories about these three siblings (and about Matt’s former roommate and pseudo-Hadley sibling, Tanner Mangum).

We also get Spencer’s thoughts on the move to a 4-3 scheme, the challenge (and potential reward) of switching up player positions on defense.

Speaking of Spencer Hadley, remember that goal line stand against BSU in 2012? We do. For your enjoyment (Mary cried re-watching it):

Naturally, we had to take advantage of the competitive Hadley spirit with a game of BYU-themed Catch Phrase! Mary and Amanda team up against Jess and Spencer for some intense rounds that will make you laugh out loud.

In other news, BYU Basketball released its 2016-17 schedule. We tell you what games stand out to us and why we think this schedule might be perfect for our young squad.

Finally, we round up this week’s news from the BYU social mediasphere in our Talk of the Town segment, including BYU alums playing in the NFL preseason, the trial of weddings on game days, and a new weekly Daily Herald column by Sunny Mahe that we’re looking forward to!
