BYU is coming off a three game losing streak but this weekend they’ve opened as 4.5 point favorite against Toledo according to VegasInsider. Led by head coach Jason Candle, Toledo is 3-0 on the year but has yet to play a defense anywhere near the caliber of BYU. Despite the competition, Toledo has been able to put up some serious offensive numbers.
Toledo has scored 31, 45 and 52 against Arkansas State, Maine and Fresno State respectively. Much of their success has been due to their quarterback, Logan Woodside.
Logan has already thrown for over 900 yards in three games with an astounding 11 touchdowns to just one interception. Again, it’s unclear how good he is given the teams they’ve played but needless to say, they’ll try and throw the ball a lot Saturday.
BYU will undoubtedly look to pressure Woodside and force him into some bad spots. He loves to distribute the ball as Toledo has five receivers with more than 100 yards on the season. If BYU chooses to pressure Woodside, you’ll see a lot of man to man coverage on the outside.
Kalani Sitake certainly recognizes that this may be a “must win” game for BYU if they are to make a bowl this season. We will know a lot more as the week progresses but for not, it’s always a good sign to be favored in Vegas.
And by the way, despite BYU’s 1-3 record, they are 4-0 against the spread this year.
