BYU Head Coach Kalani Sitake addressed the media Monday morning in his weekly press conference. Here are some of the highlights from his comments:

Quarterbacks (1:50 mark)

Kalani mentioned that “there is a chance that Tanner (Mangum) and Beau (Hoge) could play this week.” Tanner is still recovering from an ankle injury he suffered versus Utah, while the nature of Hoge’s injury has not been publicly revealed.

In case they aren’t ready to go, Kalani mentioned true freshmen Joe Critchlow and Kody Wilstead as possibilities. Both were planning on using a redshirt year this season, but injuries may force one (or both) into action. Both players returned from LDS missions in the offseason.

Kalani talked about some of Koy Detmer Jr.’s struggles, and didn’t mention him as a candidate to start versus Boise State

Riley Burt (8:00 mark)

After starting the season at running back, Burt was briefly moved over to cornerback after the season started. Kalani confirmed that Burt has moved back to running back, and mentioned that he “looks forward to seeing him (Burt) back on the field a little more.” With Ula Tolutau having separated himself as the featured back, Burt could enter into the mix as a change of pace back that adds some explosiveness to the running back position.

Kalani also talked about Friday’s matchup with Boise State, the offensive play calling, team morale, and more in the 15-minute press conference.
