Happy Halloween, Cougar Fans! Thankfully, we were all spared perhaps the scariest thing we could have experienced this Halloween: an eighth straight loss, this time to San Jose State. That’s right, the BYU Football team WON on Saturday, defeating the Spartans 40-21. It was a beautiful day at LaVell Edwards Stadium, perfect day for a football game, and the Cougs finally delivered their second win of the season.
Coaching from the Couch was definitely a little more upbeat this week, with plenty that went right to discuss. And while we’ll never complain about a win, there are still some things that will hopefully go better Saturday night against Fresno State.

We were so lucky this week to be able to bring back the Perfect Fan segment to get to know BYU Basketball’s Dalton Nixon better through an interview with his dad and former BYU Basketball player himself, Kevin Nixon. First up, Kevin gave us his thoughts on the Cougar hoopster’s charity exhibition game win against New Mexico last Friday. Kevin’s optimism and enthusiasm for this basketball team is contagious, and we’re feeling even more excited about this season.

We also got some behind the scenes info on Dalton’s return to basketball after serving a two-year mission in Boston and how his game (and the team) has changed since then. Of course we had to ask about Kevin and Dalton’s unique bond as one of the few father-and-son BYU basketball duos. Watch the interview and you’ll get a good idea just how much it means to Kevin to have his son following in his footsteps! We can’t wait to follow Dalton’s season and his BYU Basketball career.

In Talk of the Town this week, one of our favorite BYU power couples, Butch Pau’u and Kalani Purcell, shared their engagement photos, and they are gorgeous! In other news, a fan put together an amazing timeline of BYU Football using mini helmets, and Coach Sitake has a Halloween costume suggestion for Fred Warner (and Mary has one for Zac Seljaas). We’ve also got updates on former hoopsters Eric Mika and Tyler Haws.

Enjoy the Halloween festivities, Cougar Fans! Try to make it to the BYU Football Trunk or Treat Tuesday at LES from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. if you can, or watch a special edition of BYU Sports Nation at 5 p.m. and BYU Football with Kalani Sitake on BYUtv at 6 p.m. if you can’t make it out. We’ll have a special Halloween-themed Talk of the Town next week! See you then.
