Cougs on Cougs: BYU Football offseason questions that need answered

Jess and Mary wrap up BYU Football talk with a ‘3 Things’ segment highlighting the biggest questions this 4-9 season left them with.

NCAA Football: Brigham Young at Hawaii Marco Garcia-USA TODAY Sports

Jess and Mary are back after Thanksgiving with episode 91 of Cougars on Cougars. Football season is [finally] over, so they start off with some parting thoughts on a historically bad season for BYU. What ‘3 Things’ do the ladies want the focus to be on throughout the long offseason ahead? They start out by discussing Ty Detmer’s release from the offensive coordinator position, move on to which players might actually even still be with the team next year, and end with the BYU Football culture — is it what it should be? What are your top priorities this offseason? Do you agree with Jess and Mary?

Time to close the book on football talk for awhile. Jess and Mary do a Coaching from the Couch segment for BYU Basketball focusing on the Cougars’ road trip to New York to play in the Barclay’s Center Classic. The Cougs lost their Friday matchup with no. 25 Alabama, 71-59. But they came back to win their game against UMass Saturday, 68-66 (S/O to Yoeli for that last-second dunk and to Jahshire for the sweet pass that made that happen). Jess and Mary talk about what they think went wrong in The Big Apple, and what they think went right. Rebounds and defensive effort highlight the good takeaways with second chance points, points off turnovers, and going too long without scoring being some of the bad ones.

The ladies wrap up the show with Talk of the Town and a brief Raising ‘Em Right segment. Coach Sitake made a classy move after the Hawaii win, Jonah Trinnaman had a meaningful number change for the last couple of football games, basketball’s Elijah is chiming in on #BYUSN Twitter, plus much more. There’s a drawing that all BYU fans should probably get copies of and have framed in Raising ‘Em Right. That’s a good boy you’ve got, Jen.

BYU Basketball has two instate match-ups this week. The first is with UVU Wednesday and the second is with Utah State Saturday. Jess and Mary will be back next week to discuss both of those and more. ‘Til then, Cougar fans!
