BYU Basketball will play its first-ever game at Utah Valley University Wednesday night. It’s the first time the teams will see each other since UVU shockingly upset BYU at the Marriott Center last year, 114-101.
UVU has a 4-2 record (same as BYU), and has played in some tough games so far this season. The Wolverines lost to Kentucky by just 10 and even kept it close with the no. 1 Duke Blue Devils in the first half. They have certainly not been shy about playing some powerhouses. UVU beat North Dakota in overtime (who was a tournament team) at North Dakota, 83-75 on Saturday.
The Wolverine’s are sitting at a KenPom ranking of 143 and the Cougs are at 85. ESPN’s FPI gives UVU a 62 percent chance to win. At the end of the day, rankings and stats don’t mean much in this ‘Crosstown Clash’ game where the programs (which are just five miles apart) share so much familiarity (Toolson, Neilson, Pope, etc.). Expect it to be wild.
