LSU offensive line coach Jeff Grimes plans to accept BYU’s offer to become offensive coordinator for the Cougars, according to reports from FootballScoop and The Advocate in Baton Rouge.
FootballScoop says the hire needs formal clearance, which is expected by Thursday evening. FootballScoop is also reporting that Grimes will remain with the Tigers through the Citrus Bowl against Notre Dame on January 1.
Grimes has been LSU’s offensive line coach and run-game coordinator for four seasons. He’s had three linemen drafted in the past three seasons, and the Tigers have seen four-straight 1,000-yard rushers in his four seasons in Baton Rouge.
Grimes also coached offensive line at Auburn for four seasons, including in the school’s 2010 national championship season.
He coached offensive line at BYU from 2004-06.
Grimes’ other stops as a staff assistant coach include Virginia Tech, Colorado, Arizona State and Boise State stretching back to 2000.
BYU has yet to formally announce the hire of Grimes and other additions to the offensive staff, but those should be expected within the next day or so.
Stay tuned to Vanquish the Foe as we’ll go in-depth on the Jeff Grimes hire and other additions BYU makes to the staff.
