Provo, Utah -- After a close first 30 minutes that saw Portland hang around, BYU pulled away in the second half to beat Portland 69-45 in the WCC opener for both teams.
Elijah Bryant and Yoeli Childs did everything for BYU, as the duo combined for 48 points and finished with a double double (26 points and 13 rebounds for Yoeli, 22 points and 15 rebounds for Bryant).
Portland came into the game as the 10th best three-point shooting team in the country, and the three ball kept Portland in the game early. BYU held the Pilots without a three for the last 16 minutes, however, which allowed BYU to pull away for the comfortable victory. Portland finished the game 7-27 (26%) from three.
Tonight’s victory was BYU’s 9th straight and pushed the Cougars to 12-2 on the year.
BYU’s next game is a showdown versus Saint Mary’s Saturday afternoon in Provo.
