BYU football recruiting: 2017 DE Tyler Batty signs with the Cougars

Cougars land in-state prospect and gives them depth on the defensive line

Tyler Batty, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound defensive end prospect from Payson High in Payson, Utah, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for BYU.

Batty received a 79.24 composite rating from 247Sports, making him a two-star prospect and the 21st best prospect in the state of Utah this year. He also received offers from Utah, Utah State, Air Force, and Hawaii.

He is expected to play at defensive end during his BYU career, but could end up at tight end at some point. His physical, punishing style gives him one of the higher upsides of any prospect in this BYU class.

Batty plans on serving a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before enrolling at BYU, so we won’t see him on the field for at least a few more years.
