Cougs on Cougs: The doctors are in to cure what’s ailing BYU Basketball

Jess and Mary pull out their stethoscopes and talk about what’s plaguing BYU Basketball. Is there a cure-all for our struggles? They name their #BYUValentines winner, plus more.

NCAA Basketball: St. Mary's at Brigham Young Chris Nicoll-USA TODAY Sports

It’s week 57 of Cougars on Cougars! We start things out with a Notable Quotable from Dean Smith that’s super relevant to BYU Basketball’s struggles, then get right to our #BYUValentines contest. Thank you to everyone who participated — amazing puns abounded. Watch to find out who won that coveted signed photo of Tanner Mangum. And search the #BYUValentines hashtag on Twitter. You won’t regret it. Here are a few of our favorites:

Next, it’s time to talk hoops. BYU got revenge on San Diego with an 82-70 home win but then made a terrible showing against no. 22 Saint Mary’s, losing 70-57. We go over some highlights (and lowlights) from those games and then it’s time to call in the doctors. Dr. Tyler and Dr. Blanchard make some diagnoses for this BYU Hoops squad and suggest some possible remedies. Dr. Blanchard talks about having someone on the team to rely on when everything else is going wrong (think Tyler Haws and Kyle Collinsworth). Dr. Tyler talks about the short-term memory that’s required for shooters, and that our guys may be lacking. Many more super hot and totally official medical takes are given. What do you think’s ailing BYU Basketball? What would you prescribe?

Finally, we wrap things up with what is going on around the BYU social mediasphere. As for football, two Cougars got NFL Combine invites and one of them is being referred to as Elder for some reason. We’ve got Ty Detmer and Jim McMahon in tuxes, revisit one of our favorite BYU power couples and more.

With basketball, we’ve found out that one of our favorite true freshmen does in fact have a Gabriella to his Troy (yes, we’re talking about Steven Beo). Two BYU Hoops alumni had a funny Twitter exchange, we’ve got a whole Jimmer section (because the dude scored 73 points over in China) plus much more.
