BYU was minutes away from winning its first ever transitive property national title, but North Carolina pulled away at the end to join some ELITE company.
While no one was probably happier than North Carolina fans, a segment of Utah and Utah State fans gave them a run for their money, and were able to breath a huge sigh of relief that they didn’t have to deal with BYU fans being TOTALLY SERIOUS about being the best team in the nation. Here’s a small sample of the celebratory tweets. Enjoy!
Best part of UNC's win: BYU fans can't say they were the only ones to beat the champs. #GoHeels #BYLosers
— Zane Erickson (@ZaneErickson) April 4, 2017
Only good thing about North Carolina winning is I don't have to hear from all the BYU fans saying they are best team in country.
— Brandon (@FBB801) April 4, 2017
Exactly what I thought. Hearing "BYU only team to beat Nat'l Champs" would have been insufferable. Next they'd claim Runner Up Nat'l Champ. https://t.co/W9Mq9nMjwW

@DanWolken BYU fans taking his harder than anyone ....
— Wrigleyville Ute (@jhallito) April 4, 2017
At least BYU doesn't get to feel special
— Mark Calkins Charyk (@markcharyk) April 4, 2017
Take it easy on your byu friends. I can be devastating to lose a vicarious NC, that took all sorts of mental gymnastics to rationalize.
— Spring Ball Homer (@sheasr1) April 4, 2017
UNC but I'd b lyin if I said reason didn't want Zags 2 win is so I wouldn't have 2 listen 2 BYU fans say "we beat the national champs" lol
— Alex Ellis (@alexzolloellis) April 4, 2017
At least I won't have to listen to BYU fans go on about being the only team to beat the national champions
— Jake Smith (@CodeMonkey76) April 4, 2017
Feel bad for Gonzaga but I am grateful I don't have to hear how the Zoobies are the real national champions.
— I hate BYU (@hatebyu) April 4, 2017
@hatebyu Like that 1984 football championship they never should have been given.
— KPHusky (@KPHusky) April 4, 2017
Not only that, we are saved from seeing thousands of posts from the Zoobs about a meaningless regular season win.
— Steve Johnson (@SBJ_DSUSID) April 4, 2017
But at least I don't have to see any tweets about how BYU was the only team to beat the zags smh
— Alex K. Adamson (@AlexKAdamson) April 4, 2017
#Zags really lost because BYU fans can't be trusted with the responsibility of being the only team to beat the champs #NationalChampionship
— Zack Adams (@ZeeNotes) April 4, 2017
In the bright side, BYU doesn't win a National Championship via transitive property.
— Josh Buck (@jbizzle_3) April 4, 2017
Thanks for winning UNC so I don't have to deal with annoying BYU fans #NationalChampionship
— Riley (@rilojh) April 4, 2017
At least BYU didn't win the transitive property law national championship.
— Kelsey Price (@KPkelsey) April 4, 2017
The only good thing about this result is not having to hear BYU fans obnoxiously talk about being the "one." #NationalChampionship
— Benjamin Kiser (@BKiser90) April 4, 2017
The good news is I don't have to hear any byu fans talk about how they were the only team to beat Gonzaga this year
— Q (@qoldworld) April 4, 2017
Only reason I want UNC to win is cause I don't want to hear BYU fans say they were the only team to beat the National champs
— Bradley Smith (@bradleysmith03) April 4, 2017
Atleast all the byu fans can't say they're the only team who beat the national champions now
— Christian MacDonald (@SpicyCheech) April 4, 2017
Well.... poor BYU fans. No transitive national championship for U guys. As your slogans go. "Next year we will be champs, & Moral Victories"
— Papa Smurf Ute (@PapaSmurfUTE) April 4, 2017
BYU was soooo close to a National Championship. Too bad for them.
— Jeff_Ute (@Jeff_Ute) April 4, 2017
Sorry BYU, maybe next year.
— Kyle P Hardy (@KylePHardy) April 4, 2017
And then this Boise State fan who for some reason was thinking about BYU football at 10:45 at night:
BYU being dirty is not a new thing. Stop pretending that it is. #BYUfootball #missionarytool #DirtyBYU #BYUfans #rameumptom #riseandshout
— Orange Jacket Guy (@Boise1932) April 4, 2017
The rivalry(s) seems to be alive and well!
