Liberty University, an Evangelical school in Virginia, will be making the jump from the FCS level to FBS beginning in 2018. They will join BYU as one of 5 independent schools.
With the addition of Liberty to the 2019 schedule, BYU now has 12 scheduled games for that season. Here is the list of 2019 games:
Home: Utah, USC, Washington, Boise State, Liberty, Idaho State
Away: Tennessee, Toledo, Washington State, Utah State, Umass, San Diego State
The addition of Liberty gives BYU an easy home game in an otherwise loaded slate. With 4 Pac 12 teams, 1 SEC team, and 3 of the best group of 5 teams, a game with lower-level program like Liberty to round out the schedule makes sense.
The 2022 road game is BYU’s 5th scheduled away game for the 2022 season. BYU also has Utah, Oregon, Stanford, and Boise state scheduled as road games for 2022, so the Liberty game could be BYU’s token east coast game that season.
While the Liberty scheduling news isn’t much to get excited about for most BYU fans, most anything football related this time of year (other than suspensions/honor code issues) makes the offseason go on a little faster.
Also, 15 weeks until BYU kicks off the season versus Portland State.
