BYU Football Recruiting: Linebacker Oliver Nasilai commits to BYU

BYU lands hard hitting linebacker from Arkansas

Southern Utah v BYU

BYU added another piece to its 2018 recruiting with the commitment of Arkansas linebacker Oliver Nasilai. Nasilai announced his commitment this afternoon via his twitter account:

Nasilai is a 3-star prospect by both Scout and Rivals. He holds offer from Oklahoma State and Air Force, and was receiving a lot of interest from Arkansas and Memphis.

Nasilai’s nickname — “The Punisher” — aptly sums up his playing style. The 6’1”, 245 lbs run-stuffing linebacker brings a physical and punishing style. Predominantly a middle linebacker, Nasilai shows the ability to get in the backfield and cover the field sideline to sideline. Nasilai also has played some outside linebacker, so coaches may opt to put him there during his time at BYU.

Nasilai is LDS, but his mission plans are unclear at the present time. With all 3 current starting linebackers (Fred Warner, Butch Pau’u, Francis Bernard) all set to graduate in the next 1-2 years, Nasilai will be counted on to fill one of those starting spots in the near future.

This past season, Nasilai tallied 61 tackles, 14 tackles for a loss, three sacks, three forced fumbles, one field goal blocked, one fumble recovery, and one interception. He also played a little offense too, as he rushed the ball 7 times for 21 yards and a TD.

Nasilai’s highlights can be viewed below.
