BYU Football opened the season with a 20-6 win over the Portland State Vikings at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Saturday. Although it wasn’t the shellacking most BYU fans were hoping for, it was a win and an excellent chance to get on the field and play a game before the Cougars take on the LSU Tigers Saturday.
In the return of Coaching from the Couch, Coach Blanchard and Coach Tyler discuss what they thought went wrong and what went right in the Cougars’ win. Penalties may have prevented BYU from getting into a rhythm on offense, but the defense held the Vikings to just six points, largely due to the play of Fred Warner and Sione Takitaki. Although grateful for the win, there is plenty to get better at before taking on an SEC team on Saturday.
BYU Football was set to travel to Houston to take on LSU in the 2017 AdvoCare Texas Kickoff Saturday. Unfortunately, Hurricane Harvey hit the area, causing widespread destruction and devastation. In times like these, football seems a trivial thing, and our thoughts are with those affected by this natural disaster. We’re grateful for all those who have made efforts to help and serve the people of Houston, and hope rescue efforts will continue to be successful.
Cougs, Pray for the people of Houston who are suffering and scared. I trust you know we'll study all the best options to work out the game. pic.twitter.com/FPqKDawSVO

One minor side-effect of the hurricane is that the BYU-LSU game was moved to the Superdome in New Orleans. For those of you who were able to rearrange travel plans and are still planning on cheering the Cougars on in person, Along the Trail is back to be your guide to what to do and where to eat while visiting the Big Easy. From Po’ Boy sandwiches to beignets and jazz music to the French Quarter, there’s something for every BYU fan to enjoy!
Lovely early morning stroll around New Orleans. The city is beautiful at 7 am!

In this week’s Talk of the Town, everyone’s favorite defensive lineman Mo Langi made the Piesman watchlist, Saturday’s game will see two Eagle Scout quarterbacks facing off, and TJ Haws makes the cover of Lindy’s Sports College Basketball magazine.
Only 30 days until college basketball season officially begins......#countdown

Good luck to the Cougars in New Orleans this weekend! We’re hoping for a close game and no injuries. We’ll be back next week with a recap of the LSU game and a preview of the BYU-Utah game!
