Fall Camp for BYU Football is still in full swing, and this week Jess and Mary bring you an inside look at one of the practices. Jess got to watch the Cougars in person last Thursday, and she gives her perspective on the progress the team has made with only 18 days to go until kickoff against Portland State!
Looking tough and competitive, the offensive and defensive lines went at it in drills, which occasionally pitted Center Tejan Koroma against Defensive Lineman Motekiai Langi. Jess shares one of her favorite moments from the practice— when Mo ended up on the ground and the entire offensive line dog piled on him. Coach Empey (who joined in on the dog pile himself) posted the video for your viewing pleasure!

After position drills, the team scrimmaged for about 20 minutes. Jess shares her takes on how the wide receivers and tight ends look, how the running backs are progressing, and of course, on how Tanner Mangum is handling his role as the undisputed starting quarterback (spoiler alert: he’s handling it very well).
My observation:

During 2 minute drill, I didn't see calls from sideline. I truly believe Mangum was calling all plays in that drill.
There’s still plenty of time to work out some of the issues, but overall, the team looks to be ahead of where they were last year at this time. If you’re in Utah and want to check out the team before Aug. 26, head down to LaVell Edwards Stadium on Aug. 17 at 4:30 PM for the open scrimmage.
We’ve been teasing it for weeks, and we finally have an interview with Ben Wenzel, the lucky winner of a BYU50 competition helmet in Augusta, Georgia! In our interview, Ben explains his strategy and how he beat out other BYU fans in the area. He also shows us his prized helmet and tells us his plans for it. There are still a couple of weeks of drops, so if you want a leg up, listen to Ben’s advice. Good luck!
In Talk of the Town this week, we discuss the announcement of the 2017 BYU Football Captains, break down the pre-season rankings for three of BYU Football’s September opponents, and give you an update from our #BYUPackers, practicing away in Green Bay.

And for the “Married People Who Admire Chase Fischer” club, Jess and Mary give you an update on the former BYU Basketball sharpshooter, including why he’s no longer playing basketball professionally in Italy and how he’s been spending his time back in the states. Organic eggs, anyone? Check out the full interview with Chase at espn960sports.com.
Cougs on Cougs will be back next week with more from fall camp! Hang in there—the season is almost here!
