BYU’s offense showed some life early, but Wisconsin physically dominated BYU from start to finish in a 40-6 blowout win.
Wisconsin’s offensive front mauled BYU, opening up holes for their running backs and giving QB Alex Hornibrook plenty of time to throw. Hornibrook set a Wisconsin record for completion percentage by completing 18/19 passes for 256 yards and 4 touchdowns.
BYU’s offense didn’t fare much better on the day. Running back Ula Tolutau was good early, but Wisconsin’s defense quickly adjusted and held him to 58 rushing yards on the day (12 after the first two drives).
QB Beau Hoge showed a big big arm with a few nice throws and runs, but threw a couple picks and gave up a safety after trying to extend a play. The best play of the day was a 50-yard toss to WR Micah Simon right before the end of the first half. Simon finished the day with three catches for 60 yards.
With Tanner Mangum potentially being out for a few more weeks with an ankle injury, we could see Beau Hoge under center for at least another game.
BYU now has a bye week before traveling to Logan to face off with Utah State on Friday, Septemer 29.
