Cougs on Cougs: Previewing the Holy War—Will BYU Football end Utah’s streak?

It’s Rivalry Week! Saturday night, the BYU Cougars will face off against the Utah Utes in LaVell Edwards Stadium — with a lot on the line. After six losses in a row and a disappointing shutout loss against the LSU Tigers last week, does BYU Football have what it takes to end Utah’s six-game winning streak and finally pull out a win? How confident are you feeling, Cougar Fans?

For the second year, Utah superfan (and part-time BYU fan) Andrew Fox joins Jess and Mary to preview the rivalry match. The Utes easily handled the North Dakota Fighting Hawks 37-16 Thursday, giving them a couple of extra days to prep for the Cougars. Andrew tells us what he feels Utah’s strengths and weaknesses are, which match-ups he is looking forward to watching, and what concerns him about this game. We appreciate Andrew for being a good sport and taking the time to share his insight! As we all know, there’s really no predicting what will happen in a rivalry game. Here’s to hoping it’s another close one! And that the Cougars are finally able to vanquish their biggest foe. (See what we did there?)

Operation Underground Railroad needs your help in their mission to end human trafficking & we can't think of a better...

Of course, there is still plenty to talk about after last Saturday’s loss to the LSU Tigers in New Orleans. But before getting into that, guest couch coach for the week, Cat Hundley, tells us about The Railroad Run, a 5k, 10k, and .5 mile kids run for families that will take place this Saturday at The Shops at Riverwoods in Provo. All profits from the race will be donated to Operation Underground Railroad, in the rescue and rehabilitation of victims of sex trafficking.

This is an excellent cause, and a perfect activity to do with the family before the big game! Registration is just $5 for the .5 mile kids’ run, $30 for the 5k, and $40 for the 10k. Registration includes a swag bag, race shirt, medals for top finishers in each category, timed race results, awards for top finishers, on-course nutrition, post-race massage, and activities for the kids. Madilyn Paige from The Voice will also be performing! Registration ends Thursday, so click here to register today! And tell all your friends.

In Coaching from the Couch, Coach Hundley joins Jess and Mary to discuss what went wrong in the Cougars’ loss to the Tigers. Unfortunately, there was a lot to choose from. Who is going to light a fire under the offense? Who is going to step up and be a consistent playmaker? Who is going to have the confidence to look his teammates in the eyes and say, “We’re going to win this!”?

A lot needs to change before Saturday if the Cougars are going to have a chance at defeating their rival. But despite the loss, it wasn’t all bad—there were a couple of highlights and silver linings. Don’t abandon ship yet, Cougar fans! It’s still early in the season, and a lot can change in a week. We hope to see you wearing royal and cheering on the team with us on Saturday night in LES!

In Talk of the Town this week, some good things did come out of the Superdome over the weekend, BYU plays a lot of states, Matt Bushman’s mom is #momgoals, and please, please BYU Football, #doitforthekids!

Keep the faith, Cougar Fans. We’ll see you next week!
