Another week of Cougs on Cougs, another couple of wins for BYU Basketball! The Cougars are on a four game winning streak, defeating Loyola Marymount University, 82-67 and then beating San Diego, 74-58. There’s not much to complain about in Coaching from the Couch this week, but Jess and Mary each give something they’d like to see improve in the games against Saint Mary’s and Pacific this week. Thankfully, there was plenty that went right, including the scoring contributions from players other than Elijah Bryant and Yoeli Childs, and balanced efforts in other areas, including rebounding, assists, steals, and blocks.
If you would have told me a few weeks ago that Yoeli and Elijah would combine to go 9-27 from the field vs San Diego, I would have thought that BYU is losing that game. But BYU had 4 players score in double figures for the 3rd straight game.— Lance Archibald (@lancewarchibald) January 22, 2018
With the career high nights from TJ Haws and Jashire Hardnett, and solid contributions from Zac Seljaas and the bench, can the Cougars take down the [newly minted] no. 16 Saint Mary’s Gaels in Moraga this Thursday? Stay tuned!
Sorry for all the b-ball pics lately everyone...I promise I’m a lot more than just a basketball player. Don’t worry, I still love my family. But while they’re in Florida, I’ve got a special group of brothers right here. I love this team, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to play with them. Happy to have just gotten a couple of important wins, but we’ve got serious business to take care of this weekend. #byuhoops #tdt #gocougs
In Talk of the Town this week, BYU Football announced the addition of a ninth! Former BYU defensive back Preston Hadley has joined the staff to coach safeties. Scheduling news has the Cougars playing at ACC school North Carolina State in 2024 and at home in 2030 (yes, 2030).
It looks like someone else cares about captains as much as Jess and Mary, and the BYU Basketball twitter account is getting in on the memes with a new one featuring Yoeli Childs -- and pizza rolls! Plus, Jess and Mary give a shout out to the BYU bench mob, which has been fantastic recently (and we hope will have much cause to celebrate during both games this week)!
