Cougs on Cougs: Favorite BYU Sports moments of 2017

Jess and Mary are back to review some of their favorite moments of 2017 and discuss BYU Basketball’s win over Portland and overtime loss to Saint Mary’s.

NCAA Basketball: Portland at Brigham Young Chris Nicoll-USA TODAY Sports

Cougar Fans, it’s a brand new year, which means brand new hopes and expectations for our BYU Football and Basketball teams! Anything is possible, right? A return to the NCAA Tournament, a football win over Utah, heck, even just reaching a bowl game again — it’s all on the table!

But before we think about that too much, let’s say goodbye to 2017 by remembering our favorite moments. Jess and Mary made a list of their 10 favorite things that happened last year, including everything from BYU Basketball’s win over no. 1, then-undefeated Gonzaga on the road (the same team that ended up playing for the National Championship, mind you), to caffeine on campus, to Brayden El-Bakri’s unforgettable hit during the SJSU game. Watch to see what else is on our list, and let us know in the comments what your favorite moments were!

Last week, BYU Basketball opened WCC play with two home games, defeating Portland 69-45 and then losing to Saint Mary’s in overtime, 74-64. So much of what went right for the Portland game and the majority of the Saint Mary’s game fell a little short in overtime, snapping the Cougars’ nine-game winning streak. In Coaching from the Couch, Mary and Jess give their takes on what went well and what could have gone better for BYU, and talk about which lineup they hope to see more of this week.

Talk of the Town starts out with some big BYU Football news: Aaron Roderick, Fesi Sitake, and Ryan Pugh have all joined the offensive staff under new coordinator Jeff Grimes. Jess and Mary give their brief thoughts on these hires, but look for their more in-depth profiles on the new coaches sometime later this year!

In other news, Kyle Collinsworth made his first shot as a Dallas Maverick, Colby Pearson gave Aaron Rodgers a Book of Mormon for Christmas, and Taysom Hill continues to surprise everyone (well, maybe everyone who isn’t a BYU fan) with his versatility on the football field.

Coming up, BYU Basketball has its first road trip of WCC play at San Francisco Thursday, then Pacific Saturday. We can’t wait to see how the Cougs handle themselves in these match-ups after that tough loss to SMC! See you next week, Cougar Fans. May you always stay loyal to the white and blue!
