CougarCast: Fallout from 2 straight losses to Utah State and stopping Hawaii’s offense

The week in BYU Football in podcast form.

NCAA Football: Hawaii at Colorado State Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

In this episode of the CougarCast podcast:

  • The BYU Cougars have lost 2 games in a row. Not only in the last two weeks. But over their last to games against the Utah State Aggies. The last time BYU lost to Utah State in two consecutive games is way back in 1973-74.

In recent history, a loss to Utah State is an alarming event. Losing to the Aggies always causes a change to be made. Coaches get fired. Quarterbacks lose their starting job.

  • It appears that the 2018 defeat to Utah State is going to result in Tanner Magnum getting benched in favor of Zach Wilson. What challenges will face the freshman in his first start? What sort of performance would validate the change at the quarterback position?
  • Beyond the change at QB, BYU welcomes in the 6-1 Hawaii Rainbow Warriors to Provo. Hawaii is an effective, fun offensive football team.

Can BYU keep up if the game turns into a shootout?

  • The massive BYU sports legacy of THE voice of the Cougars, Paul James, who passed away this week.
