Are BYU and Boise State rivals? Well, both schools appear to be telling us that they are.

BYU’s football offices have Boise State on the wall as one of their three rivals (along with Utah and Utah State), and Boise State’s new incentive-based contract proposal for Head Coach Bryan Harsin will give him a bonus for each BYU win.

According to KTVB news in Boise, Harsin will receive a $10,000 bonus when he beats BYU at home and $15,000 when he beats them in Provo. According to the proposal, he will not receive a bonus for beating any other MWC team, but will receive a $25,000 bonus when he beats a P5 team.

BYU and Boise State are in the midst of a 12-game series that began in 2012 and runs through 2023. The Broncos lead the all-time series 6-2.

Kalani Sitake’s contract is not available to the public, but Harsin’s contract brings up the question of what incentives are in Kalani’s contract. Does he get a bonus if he beats Utah or Boise State? If so, how much? Incentives are a common practice in many coaches’ contracts, so Kalani likely has some in his.

The next game game between the two rivals is Saturday, November 3 on the blue turf in Boise.
