BYU opens as huge favorite over New Mexico State

NCAA Football: New Mexico State at Minnesota Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

With just one more win needed to secure bowl eligibility, BYU will welcome New Mexico State into Provo as heavy favorites.

Vegas released its initial line for the game and BYU opened as a 23-point favorite over the New Mexico State Aggies.

The Aggies are currently 3-7 and have two FBS wins on the year. Their best victory of the season is over 4-5 Liberty.

BYU was a 23.5-point favorite over McNeese State, and the line for this game could go above that before Saturday’s kickoff. Less than 20 minutes after the line was released, BYU already went up to a 23.5-point favorite versus the Aggies. Even though McNeese is a FCS school, they may be a better team than NMSU.

NMSU has one of the worst defense in the nation, as they are 127th in the nation in scoring defense giving up 42.7 points per game. Their offense is slightly better, as their 27.2 points per game puts them at 87th in the country.

NMSU will come into Provo off a bye week and an extra week to prepare for BYU. The game will kickoff at 8:15 MST on ESPN2 at Lavell Edwards Stadium.
