For the second year in a row the Grand Canyon state will be supplying BYU with a big-time prospect.
Last year it was Gunner Romney and and this year the Cougars have inked Jacob Conover, a highly rated quarterback who looks to be the signal-caller of the future along once he returns home from his mission in 2021.
Conover had BYU and hometown Arizona State in his final two, and also had offers from Alabama, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Arizona, Washington State, among many other schools. This was a huge signing not just because Jacob brings a lot to the field but he also did a lot to recruit other players in the 2019 class to come to Provo.
Conover will depart on his mission to Paraguay on February 12th. It’s hard to predict who will be the starting QB when Conover returns home, but Zach Wilson will most likely be entering his senior season, along with Jaren Hall who will most likely be a redshirt junior. If all goes according to plan (which it always does, right?) it will make for a nice transition to Conover.
Conover is considered one of the top pro-style QB’s in the country, as 247 Sports, ESPN and Rivals all him in among the top 10 pro-style quarterbacks in the 2019 class. Each recruiting service also has him as a 4-star QB.
Jacob has led Chandler High School (Arizona) to back-to-back state titles, and was teammates with 2018 WR signee Gunner Romney.
He threw for over 3,000 yards and over 30 touchdowns in three seasons as the starting quarterback at Chandler, and only threw two picks during the entire 2017 season.
