BYU is going bowling.
After a one year bowl hiatus, BYU will play Western Michigan of the Mid American Conference in the Famous Idaho Potato bowl. The game will be played in Boise State’s stadium December 21 at 4:00 EST on ESPN.
Western Michigan is 7-5 and finished tied for second in the western division of the MAC. They beat Northern Illinois 28-21 in their season finale; BYU, of course, lost to NIU 7-6.
WMU has a solid offense and iffy defense. An ankle injury to junior QB Jon Wassink forced freshman Kaleb Eleby into action for the last four games, and Eleby’s done an admirable job of filling in. It’s helped to have two quality backs behind him in Le’Vante Bellamy (1172 rushing yards, 6.2 ypc, 6 TDs) and Jamauri Bogan (702 rushing yards and 15 TDs).
The Idaho Potato Bowl may be disappointing to fans, but at 6-6 BYU just had to take what they got. One siliver lining is that BYU should have a nice contingent of fans at the game.
Here’s to a good end of the season for the Cougars!
