It’s episode 102 of Cougars on Cougars. Jess and Mary have a lot to talk about concerning a BYU Hoops squad that has disappointedly become quite inconsistent. But before they get to that, it’s time to show off some of the best #BYUValentines (be sure to go check out the hashtag), and award three winners. Thank you to everyone who participated. The ladies look forward to this contest every year. The puns were excellent.

Next, it’s time to get into some Couch Coaching, as BYU Basketball’s season winds down. As always, the Pepperdine Waves gave the Cougars a heck of a time at Firestone Fieldhouse — BYU had to get the game into overtime in order to pull off a 75-70 win against the 1-14 Waves. It didn’t get much easier for BYU as they went on to San Diego to face the Toreros. Not only did San Diego’s tenacious defense prevail, but they were also nailing a ton of three pointers while BYU shot a measly 13 percent. Yikes. Jess and Mary talk about both games and about what went right and what went wrong for each. Coach Blanchard’s what went right is simply that the Cougs didn’t drop one in Malibu. Sometimes that’s enough. Coach Tyler and Coach Blanchard talk about potential scenarios for seeding in the WCC Tourney, lament about rebounds, foul trouble, and more.
FINAL: After two OT wins in a row, no late-game luck left for BYU as they fall to San Diego, 75-62. Jahshire and Yoeli both fouled out. Portland and Gonzaga are up next as the Cougars enter the last week of regular season conference play.

In a short Talk of the Town (it was pretty quiet in the BYU Social Mediasphere over the past week), Jess and Mary share a pic of Payton Dastrup and his Valentine, talk about Brandon Davies in Lithuania, and Noah Hartsock who’s coaching in Las Vegas. And tangentially, whether or not Pepperdine’s Marty Wilson would be a useful addition to BYU Basketball’s staff. Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
Up next for the Cougars: A road trip to Portland (in what’s a practically must-win game if the Cougars would like the three seed), and then no. 6 Gonzaga will be in Provo Saturday night. Can BYU take down a great Bulldog squad and head into the WCC Tourney with a much-needed boost? Jess and Mary sure hope so. Until next time, Cougar fans. May you always stay loyal to the white and blue.
As of tonight, BYU can be only a 3, 4 or 5 seed in the WCC tournament.

BYU win in Portland on Thursday combined with a USF win at Pacific on Thursday would secure the 3 seed for BYU in Vegas, regardless of BYU's game outcome on Saturday.
