Led by 27 points from Elijah Bryant, BYU held on late for a 85-79 victory over San Diego in the quarterfinals of the WCC tournament.
San Diego fought back from a 17-point deficit to tie the game with under two minutes to go, but timely buckets and free throw shooting down the stretch allowed BYU to hold on.
Elijah Bryant was spectacular for BYU, as the junior guard finished with 27 points on relentless drives to the rim and a second-half spurt of threes. Foul trouble limited his time on the court, however, and Elijah ultimately fouled out with 2:07 remaining. Fouls were a storyline of the game, as both teams combined for 64 free throws.
Yoeli Childs was the second guy for BYU, as he finished with 22 points and 8 boards. TJ Haws hit some big free throws late and paced BYU with 13 points.
BYU now plays Monday night versus the winner of St Mary’s-Pepperdine in the semifinals.
