After two seasons of sparse playing time, former 4-star recruit Payton Dastrup will transfer from BYU, according to Ben Criddle of ESPN 960 Sports.

UPDATE: BYU officially announced Dastrup’s departure Thursday.
“We are grateful to Payton for the time he spent here at BYU,” Rose said. “He is a very talented player and inspirational teammate. We wish him all the very best moving forward”
The former Ohio State commit averaged 2.4 points and 1.6 rebounds during his two seasons in Provo. -The highlight of Payton’s time at BYU was this past season’s Utah game, when he scored 8 points off the bench and drilled two huge threes to put away the Utes and give BYU a much-needed rivalry win.
Always a fan favorite, Payton never wavered in support of his team and BYU fans. Even when he wasn’t seeing the floor much, Payton was always seen cheering on his teammates and energizing the crowd from the sideline.
After games when he didn’t perform as well as he would have liked or didn’t get any playing time, Payton would always stick around after games to meet with kids and take pictures with any fans that asked.
I got to know Payton a bit personally, and he is generally a great guy and absolutely loves BYU fans. All of his interactions were genuine and he gave back to the BYU community.
I will miss having Payton at BYU, but I know I speak for the rest of Cougar Nation in hoping for the best of him at his next school if he does indeed transfer.
Good luck, Payton!
