Uniformity: Color schedule for the BYU Football uniforms

Can’t wait for the ever original “EVERY GAME IS A WHITE-OUT AT BYU” jokes.

Wisconsin v BYU

Welcome to Uniformity, a special place of the internet dedicated to our healthy obsession with anything and everything to do with BYU uniforms. Here we’ll discuss updates to new uniform sets, explore the rich history of Cougar gear and pontificate on what the future could behold.

It’s been a really quite summer as it relates to BYU Football. It probably has to do with the fact that there are no substantial conference realignment rumors, which if we’re being honest, kept all of us blog boys in business. We got everything out of the way early with the overhaul of the offensive coaching staff and since then it’s been crickets.

UNTIL NOW, BECAUSE WE HAVE SOME UNIFORM NEWS!

That’s right. On Monday a BYU fan tweeted out a photo of the “color schedule”, essentially denoting which color uniforms the Cougars will be wearing for each of the games this coming season.

A few quick notes / observations on what we’re able to learn from this info:

  • Similar to the 2017 season, BYU will be giving an even split between the royal and navy uniforms. There were some rumors earlier in the year that we would see a full transition to royal this season, but for now each will get equal billing. Royal gets a little bit of the showtime treatment as it will be featured in games against longtime rivals such as Utah, Utah State and....New Mexico State. If we’re being honest they should just switch it up so that BYU wears royal against Hawaii and the Rainbow Warriors wear their amazing throwbacks. It would easily be one of the greatest uniform games of the season.
  • Also continuing in the 2018 season will be a “white-out” home game towards the beginning of the schedule, and this year it happens when they face Cal. If you take away the Portland State game (which would be great because it hurts my heart just thinking about it) BYU has been opening up with white out games at LES, starting back in 2015 against Boise State.
  • While we will be seeing plenty of white jerseys this season, for the second year in a row we won’t be seeing the black-out uniforms, with their last appearance being against Utah State in 2016. The all black uniforms are pretty decent and I’m perfectly fine with them only being used every once in a while.
  • There is still a little bit of mystery with this revelation as we don’t know the exact jersey / pant combinations that will be used. We can readily assume that all the home games where they spot navy and royal will have color tops and white pants. That is unless they go with the very meh full royal (which they haven’t done since 2014) or full navy (which hasn’t been done with 2009). The road slate is a mixed bag as sometimes the team will opt to wear their full white getup as opposed to the traditional white jersey with navy pants.
