In case you missed the news from earlier today, former NFL running back Merril Hoge was NOT happy with his son’s switch from QB to RB.
Merril Hoge appeared on BYU Sports Nation Wednesday morning and was asked about Beau’s position switch to running back. Merril used words such as dumb, stupid, bizarre and smelly to describe the position switch, and called Ed Lamb a “weasel” at one point.
With social media buzzing all day about Merril’s comments and coaches handling of the situation, Beau sent out a tweet Wednesday evening putting to bed any lingering concern.
As part of his statement, Beau said, “My father is the best father in the world and believes in me, but I’m at peace with moving to running back and excited to help our team in any way I can... I love this coaching staff, I love BYU, and I love my dad. I knew he’s excited for me and supports me no matter what. Go Cougs!”

After a situation that could have caused division in the team and among fans, Beau did a masterful job of taking his dad’s side, BYU’s side and his own side all at once and putting out the flames.
Here’s to a big season at running back for Beau. I know I’m an even bigger fan of him after the class in which he’s handled the position switch.
