It looks like Jeff Grimes will be calling plays from the field to start the season, according to BYU-Arizona game notes.
After Ty Detmer called plays from the field during his two years as BYU offensive coordinator, Jeff Grimes will stay on the field as well.
Grimes has spent the majority of his career on the field rather than the booth during his coaching career as an offensive line coach, so the decision to stay on the field shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Grimes did call plays from the booth at BYU’s Spring scrimmage.
Here is where BYU’s other assistants will be:
- Ed Lamb (LB/ST)- Field
- Ilaisa Tuiaki (DC/DL)- Field
- Aaron Roderick (Passing Game coordinator/QB)- Booth
- Ryan Pugh (OL)- Field
- Fesi Sitake- Not specified
- Steve Clark (TE)- Booth
- AJ Steward (RB)- Field
- Jernaro Gilford (CB)- Field
- Preston Hadley (S)- Booth
Roles could obviously change during the course of the season, but it’s likely that most of these guys will stay in these spots throughout the year.
