On a night where BYU could never quite pull away, Yoeli Childs and TJ Haws led the way as BYU beat Santa Clara, 80-74.
Yoeli Childs led all scorers with 27 points, and TJ Haws added 16 points and 8 assists to go along with just one turnover for the second straight game. Luke Worthington had his best game of the season, finishing with 13 points and 4 rebounds.
BYU had one of its betting shooting nights of the season, as they finished 49% from the field and 42% of the foul line. Santa Clara shot the ball well enough to stay close, shooting 45% overall and 46% from distance. Rebounding was one of the big differentiators in the game, as BYU owned a +8 rebound advantage.
BYU had stretches where it looked like they were going to put the game away, but the Broncos did a nice job of keeping the game largely within two possessions for the final 10 minutes. Santa Clara pulled within three with under two minutes to go, but a TJ Haws three with 1:30 left sealed the game for BYU.
BYU next goes to California for a pair of road games versus Pepperdine and San Francisco. The win puts BYU at 11-8 on the season and 3-1 in the WCC.
