BYU Olympic Sports: BYU rugby and soccer continue their dominance

Men’s Soccer

BYU continues it’s local dominance in men’s soccer, continuing their undefeated region play. BYU rejoined the club level in 2017 and has yet to lose a game in their region, which includes UVU, Weber St, Utah, Utah State, Boise State, and Madison Dragons (BYU-Idaho).

BYU is 5-0 on the season already. They opened with a 5-1 win over Utah before beating Weber State 4-0 the next weekend. The Cougars traveled to Rexburg and beat the Madison Dragons 4-0 before beating Boise State 4-1 in Boise.

The Cougars hosted Utah State on Friday night, scoring four goals in the opening twenty minutes to put the game away quickly. BYU would score a fifth shortly before halftime, and would coast through the second half to a 5-0 win. BYU will next play Tuesday at Utah.

Men’s and Women’s Rugby

Men’s rugby has torn thrashed Colorado in their opening game, thrashing beating the Buffs by a score of 42-5. They will play Utah State next on October 18 at Helaman Field.

The women’s team has played two games against in-state foes, first beating Utah State 74-24. This past Friday they hosted UVU, and ran over the Wolverines, winning 73-0. They travel next to Bozeman, Montana to play Montana State on Saturday.

Hockey

The hockey team has opened their season, and are 1-3 on the season. The lone win came against UVU, who they beat 8-2. BYU next plays University of Providence on Thursday and UVU again on Friday.

Cross Country

BYU’s two cross country teams are ranked in the Top 10, with the men in 2nd and the women now ranked 4th. Both teams will race in the Pre-Nationals Invitational on October 19.
