Jake Toolson and Dalton Nixon carried BYU in a tight game as BYU held on for a 68-63 victory Wednesday night over SUU.

Jake Toolson had a team high 22 points, including a game-clinching three pointer in the final minute, and Dalton Nixon added 13 points and 7 rebounds to lead the way. TJ Haws was in foul trouble for much of the second half and finished with 10 points.

SUU came in confident after knocking off Nebraska on the road and attacked BYU at the rim all game. BYU clearly missed Yoeli Childs, as SUU’s length and athleticism overwhelmed BYU at times. The Thunderbirds shot 64% from inside the arc, but 0-12 shooting from distance and 18 turnovers kept them from pulling off the upset.

BYU next travels to Houston on Friday where they’ll take on a tough Houston Cougars team in the team’s first road game of the season.
