BYU takes care of business versus Idaho State, clinches Hawaii bowl bid

NCAA Football: Idaho State at Brigham Young Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

BYU is going to Hawaii for Christmas.

Zach Wilson returned as starting QB and BYU beat Idaho State 42-10 to move the Cougars to 6-4 and secure bowl eligibility. ESPN officials extended BYU a Hawaii bowl invitation after the game.

Zach Wilson looked like a guy who had just starting gripping a ball again last week, finishing 19/31 for 187 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Wilson had his worst performance of the season, but he got valuable reps and should bounce back as he gets back in the swing of things. He’s the same guy that beat USC, Tennessee and went 18/18 in the bowl game, so I wouldn’t worry too much about Zach’s performance.

Sione Finau topped 100 yards on the ground, and seniors Micah Simon and Talon Shumway put up nice performances on senior day. BYU’s starting defense stifled Idaho State all day, coming up with two interceptions and a pick six by senior Austin Lee.

BYU next travels to the east coast to take on 1-10 UMass. The Minutemen are maybe the worst FBS team are allowing over 50 points per game.
