Despite being suspended for the first nine games of the college basketball season, Yoeli Childs has received some preseason love from national pundits.
Vegas Insider released its top preseason top 25 and All-American teams this week and named Yoeli Childs to the All-American third team. Yoeli Childs joins the third team with Gonzaga’s Killian Tillie and Utah State’s Sam Merrill. Yoeli is coming off a junior season that saw him average 21.2 points, and 9.7 rebounds while shooting over 50% from the field.
BYU Basketball also received some recognition in Vegas Insider’s Top 25 rankings, coming in at number 45 overall. Despite losing Gavin Baxter for the season and being without Yoeli for the first 9 games, Vegas is feeling good about BYU’s chances this season. BYU opponents in VI’s top 25 include Gonzaga (5), Utah State (16) and Saint Mary’s (24). Potential Maui Invitational Foes Michigan State and Kansas came in at number 1 and 4, respectively.
BYU will receive its first real test of the season today when they face off versus San Diego State as 4-point favorites.
