Good defensive back pickup for BYU!

BYU landed a commitment just before the early signing period as 3-star defensive back Micah Harper committed to BYU.

The 3-Star athlete from Chandler, Arizona also held offers from Syracuse, San Diego State, Nevada, Air Force, and a host of Ivy League schools.

The “athlete” designation for Harper is well earned — Harper lined up all over the field, including defensive back, running back, wide receiver, quarterback and returner. His versatility is one of his greatest strengths, but odds are that he starts out at cornerback or safety this next season.

On the offensive side of the ball this past season, Harper passed for over 500 yards, ran for over 250 and had 149 receiving yards. As you can see from the punt return TD in the first clip of his highlights, he possesses the agility and power to make plays in the open field.

On the defensive side of the ball, Harper’s instincts and sure tackling jump out on film. At 5-feet-10 inches he doesn’t have the length of some of the other past BYU defensive back recruits, but he makes up for it with his feel for the game lack of of mistakes.

Jeff Hansen of 247 Sports reports that Harper is expected to sign this week during the early signing period.
