BYU kept it semi-competitive for about 30 minutes, but the wheels fell of at the end as #2 Gonzaga beat BYU 102-68 Saturday night in Spokane. The 34-point loss was the largest margin of defeat in the Dave Rose easr.
Zach Norvell, Josh Perkins and Rui Hacimura each scored over 20 points for the Zags, as the team shot 55% from the floor and had only 6 turnovers.
TJ Haws and Yoeli Childs each finished with 18 points and were the only Cougars in double figures for the second consecutive game. Gavin Baxter had nice night, however, finishing with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks.
With the loss, BYU will likely be the 4th seed in the WCC tournament, barring unforeseen losses by St Mary’s and San Francisco next week. This will also be the first season in the Dave Rose era that he has not finished with 20 wins in the regular season.
BYU has a bye on Thursday before ending its season Saturday night at home versus San Diego.
