Countdown to Kickoff (80): BYU opens as 6-point underdog to Utah

NCAA Football: Brigham Young at Utah Jeff Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

Looks like Vegas is thinking we’re going to see nine in a row.

Week one college football odds were released over the weekend, and BYU is an early 6-point underdog to the Utes. Utah opened as a 6.5 favorite, but that went down quickly to six points after early money was put on BYU.

Some BYU fans are feeling more optimistic for this year’s game with many starters back, two graduate transfer running backs in the fold and the promise of QB Zach Wilson, but Utah could arguably have its most talented team of the Kyle Whittinham area. Utah returns senior QB Tyler Huntley and star RB Zack Moss to go along with one of the best defensive lines in the nation.

Here are other week one spreads for notable BYU opponents. Note: “+” means the team is an underdog, “-” means favorite.

  • Tennessee -25.5 vs Georgia State
  • USC -10.5 vs Fresno State
  • Boise State +4 vs Florida State
  • South Florida +11 vs Wisconsin
  • Toledo +13.5 at Kentucky
  • Utah State +3.5 at Wake Forest
  • UMass +13 at Rutgers
  • Liberty +17.5 vs Syracuse
