BYU Football Recruiting: 3-Star 2020 Texas Running Back Bruce Garrett Commits

Eventful couple days in the BYU recruiting world. After landing 3-star QB Sol-Jay Maiva and 3-Star WR Devin Downing yesterday, BYU got a commitment from 3-Star Texas RB Bruce Garrett Monday evening.

Garrett is a beast at the 4A level in Texas, rushing for 2,004 yards and earning all-state honors last season as a junior. Texas has a lot of good running backs, so earning all-state honors at that level is quite the accomplishment. BYU was Garrett’s lone FBS offer, but he visited Arkansas in March and was getting interest from several Texas schools.

The 5-foot-11, 190 pounds RB from Pleasant Grove HS in Texarkana, TX possesses home run potential with his quick cuts and good top end speed to out run defenders. Garrett also isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder and break tackles, which you can see several times in his highlights.

With running backs Ty’Son Williams and Emmanuel Esukpa graduating after this next season, Garrett will have a chance to step in and compete for early carries in the running back rotation as a freshman. Garrett still has his senior year ahead, so he could make his way up the Texas rushing record books before he is done.
