Ninth-ranked BYU women’s volleyball opened their conference schedule with a comfortable sweep over Gonzaga in Spokane on Thursday.
In BYU’s first game since beating then #2 Stanford(now ranked 1st), the Cougars came out on fire, using a 12-2 run halfway through the set to take a commanding lead. The Cougars hit an incredible .400 in the set and won decisively 25-13.
The second set started poorly for the Cougars, who went down 5-1 early. However, a quick run would tie things at 7, at which point the Cougars dominated the rest of the set and won 25-13 again. McKenna Miller had 3 aces during an 8-0 run to finish the set.
The Bulldogs would prove more competitive in the third set, but the Cougars again proved to be too strong for Gonzaga. Zags held a lead until 11-10, when BYU came alive and won the set 25-17.
BYU is now 10-2 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. The Cougars next play at Portland on Saturday at noon PST.
