BYU jumped out to a seven-point halftime lead and 14-point lead in the second half, but hot shooting from USF and free throw shooting down the stretch doomed BYU in a 83-82 road loss to San Francisco.

BYU went up 54-40 in the second half, but a 21-0 run by the Dons immediately after turned the game in their favor. BYU had a chance late, but a front end miss by Yoeli Childs on a one-and-one when BYU was down by two with 11 seconds left derailed the comeback attempt. TJ Haws led BYU with 20 points, Yoeli added 19 and Jake Toolson had 17 points, but USF reserve guard Khalil Shabazz torched BYU for 32 points on 10-10 shooting.

USF was 99 in KenPom coming into the game, which doesn’t make this a bad loss, but the Cougars will find themselves closer to the bubble after the loss.

BYU next goes home for two games next week versus Pepperdine and St Mary’s.
