BYU put up a spirited fight without Yoeli Childs, but ultimately fell to Saint Mary’s 87-84 in overtime.
BYU was down by six with under a minute to go in regulation, but the Cougars forced a key turnover and got some clutch play from TJ Haws to force overtime. BYU missed some good looks in OT and TJ Haws missed a contested three just before the buzzer.
TJ Haws had 29 points and Jake Toolson had 24 points to lead the Cougars. Both guys heated up in the second half to keep St Mary’s from extending its lead past 7 points.
St Mary’s had four guys in double figures, led by 24 points from star guard Jordan Ford who hit key shots down the stretch to keep St Mary’s ahead.
BYU heads home for the next two games versus WCC cellar-dwellers Portland and San Diego before traveling to Spokane to face Gonzaga Saturday the 18th.
