Wow wow wow.
14th-ranked BYU fell behind 26-14 to Houston but ended the game on a 29-0 run to beat the Cougars in red 43-26 Friday night in Houston.
Zach Wilson was BYU’s MVP, finishing 25/35 for 400 yards, 4 TDs, 0 interceptions and 40 rushing yards. His late TD pass to Dax Milne on 3rd and 16 to put BYU up 10 sealed the game for BYU and completed the comeback.
BYU started out strong, scoring touchdowns on their first 2 possessions en route to a 14-3 lead. The offense stalled during the second and most of the third quarters, however, and BYU’s defense allowed two 90+ yard drives to Houston.
BYU’s defense turned up the pressure in the second half — allowing only 6 points — and BYU outscored Houston 22-0 in the fourth quarter.
Zach Wilson came into the game with a lot of national media hype, and he lived up to it with NFL-type throws and clutch plays in timely situations. Dax Milne was the beneficiary of Wilson’s brilliance, catching 9 passes for 184 yards and 3 touchdowns.
BYU now is 5-0 and continues to grab the nation’s attention after a Friday night win on ESPN. We don’t know how good Houston is, but national media is taking note of BYU and respecting the Cougars in the polls.
BYU heads home for a Saturday night game next week versus 1-4 Texas State.
