BYU Beats San Diego State to Move to 10-1

Where will BYU go bowling?

NCAA Football: Brigham Young at Houston Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Zach Wilson threw for 303 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead BYU Saturday night to a 28-14 win over San Diego State.

The Aztecs scored touchdowns on their first two possessions, but were shutout the rest of the night despite having success on the ground. SDSU won the time of possession battle by over 13 minutes, but turnovers and redzone woes doomed SDSU. BYU’s defense had a goal line stop on fourth & goal on the one-yard line with under 3 minutes to seal the win and then another fourth & goal stop in the last 30 seconds for good measure.

BYU was without Tyler Allgeier and Gunner Romney, but Zach Wilson didn’t skip a beat and Lopini Katoa filled in nicely as running back, finishing with 90 rushing yards and 46 receiving yards. Dax Milne paced BYU receivers with 8 receptions for 107 yards and 1 touchdown, and Isaac Rex caught 2 touchdowns to move to 10 receiving touchdowns on the season.

Barring an unexpected scheduling addition, BYU awaits its bowl destination, which could come as soon as next Saturday. This will likely be the first season since 2009 that BYU finishes ranked in the AP Top 25 poll when the Cougars finished number 12.
