Brandon Averette has Career Night as BYU Breezes Past Texas Southern

30 points for Brandon!

NCAA Basketball: Brigham Young at San Diego State Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

Brandon Averette had a career high 30 points as BYU handled Texas Southern 87-71 Monday night in the Marriott Center. Averette was 10-19 from the field — including 6-13 from three — as he hit open threes in the second half to stop Texas Southern runs and used his speed to get to the rim.

Matt Haarms scored 16 points and Alex Barcello had a double double with 10 points and 10 assists to pace BYU. Richard Harward once again led the bench charge, scoring 13 points and grabbing 5 rebounds.

BYU as a team shot 48.5% from the field and 37.9% from three. BYU had some quiet stretches on offense, but they moved the ball well for most of the game and assisted on 26 of their 32 made field goals. Rebounding has been mostly solid for BYU this year, but BYU allowed Texas Southern to hang around a bit by allowing 15 offensive rebounds.

BYU’s next game is Wednesday versus Weber State at Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City.
