A little bit of relief after a tough football loss.
BYU travelled to Logan and hung on late in a 67-64 win over Utah State. Alex Barcello led BYU with 23 points and Connor Harding hit a clutch with under a minute left to break a tie ball game. With the game tied at 61, Harding hit a three late in the shot clock to put BYU up with 57 seconds left. The win over the Aggies was BYU’s 9th-straight win in the series.
BYU led 39-29 at half, but the Cougar offense went cold for long stretches in the second half to let the Aggies back in the game. BYU’s defense kept them in the game, led by 4 blocks from Matt Haarms. Utah State big man Neemias Queta led the Aggies with 18 points, but finished just 7-18 as Haarms forced missed shots down the stretch.
Caleb Lohner had his best game in his young career, finishing with 11 points, 6 rebounds and knocking down the first three three-pointers of his career.
BYU moves to 5-1 on the season and next hosts Boise State Wednesday night in and Utah next Saturday in Provo.
