The College Football Playoff Committee released its latest rankings Tuesday evening and dropped BYU from 13 to 18 following its first loss of the season. Coastal Carolina went from 18 to 13.
BYU is 9-1 on the season and its New Year’s 6 hopes are all but dashed. Barring another game on December 19, BYU’s regular season concludes this Saturday at home versus San Diego State. Kalani did say during his Monday press conference that BYU could schedule a game on the 19th. However, it is unclear at this point which teams BYU could schedule.
Bowl games have been cancelled due to COVID, but Tom Holmoe said that ESPN will place BYU in a bowl game if BYU does not qualify for a NY6 bowl. Many top tier non-NY6 bowls already have agreements with conferences, but BYU could potentially fill in if teams cannot or choose not to participate due to COVID concerns.
