BYU Basketball Jumps to Number 17 in AP Top 25 Poll

Climbing on up.

NCAA Basketball: Gonzaga at Brigham Young Jeffrey Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

After taking down Santa Clara and #2 Gonzaga last week, BYU basketball jumped from #23 to #17 in the newest AP Top 25 Poll released Monday morning. Gonzaga fell only one spot, from #2 to #3, following the loss.

BYU’s ranking falls closely in line with other metrics, as the Cougars are ranked 14 in the NET and 16 in the KenPom rankings. BYU is 23-7 and in the midst of an eight-game winning streak. The winning streak is BYU’s longest ever versus WCC teams and longest since the 2017-2018 season when BYU had a nine-game winning streak. BYU will also take a 13-game home winning streak into the offseason, which is currently tied for 14th longest in the nation.

The Cougars have a bye on Thursday before closing the season Saturday afternoon at Pepperdine. The Waves are 15-14 on the year and sit in 5th place in the WCC standings. Firestone Fieldhouse hasn’t been kind to BYU over the years and Pepperdine is a capable team, so BYU will need to ensure they don’t suffer a letdown heading into the WCC tournament.
