BYU Basketball to Play in 2020 Junkanoo Jam Tournament in the Bahamas

NCAA Basketball: Brigham Young at UCLA Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

BYU Basketball announced Wednesday morning that they will play in the 2020 Junkanoo Jam Tournament on the island of Bimini in the Bahamas November 17-21. BYU, Boston College, Tulsa and George Mason will all participate in the round-robin tournament.

BYU will play each team once and a champion will be crowned at the end of the tournament. This tournament isn’t nearly as high caliber as the Maui Invitational and other non-conference tournaments BYU has played in, but each team has had their moments this season.

Tulsa is 19-9 on the season and currently tied for first in the AAC. They are ranked 82 in KenPom and have hovered on the bubble at points in the season.

Boston college (#174 in KemPom) is 13-15 and towards the bottom of the ACC standings. George Mason (#169 in KemPom) is 15-13 on the year and towards the bottom of the Atlantic 10 standings.

All three teams come from good conferences, but none of the teams are typically yearly contenders in their leagues. BYU is safely in the NCAA tournament field largely due to its tough non-conference slate, so the coaches will need to add marquee games in order to add resume boosting opportunities.

In addition to the Junkanoo Jam, BYU currently has Utah, Utah State, UVU, Weber State and Boise State on the 2020 non-conference schedule. BYU can still add seven more games to the schedule.
