NCAA Basketball: Gonzaga at Brigham Young Jeffrey Swinger-USA TODAY Sports

BYU, who jumped up to no. 17 in the AP Poll this week, last played a week ago against no. 3 (then no. 2) Gonzaga at the Marriott Center and won that game soundly, 91-78. That win over the Zags brought a win-streak for the Cougs’ to eight games. BYU is 23-7 overall and 12-3 in conference headed in to the match-up with the Pepperdine Waves. BYU’s conference record has them holding steady at second in the WCC. A win in Malibu would clinch second place in the WCC and a bye till the semifinals of the WCC Tournament for BYU.

Pepperdine also had a bye on Thursday, and most recently played at San Francisco last Saturday. The Waves lost in 63-61 in OT, in a game that was close from wire-to-wire. Pepperdine is 15-14 overall and 8-7 in conference play. That ties them with the San Francisco Dons for 5th place in the WCC.

Pepperdine and BYU did meet up once earlier in the season, on Jan. 30 at the Marriott Center. BYU won that game, 107-80. Jake Toolson led BYU in scoring with 25 points, while Pepperdine’s Kameron Edwards scored 20. BYU’s TJ Haws and Pepperdine’s Colbey Ross each had 7 assists.
